We have also worked with the microscopes.  Be prepared to identify the related items that were frequently mentioned (revolving nosepiece, stage, coarse adjustment knob, fine adjustment knob, high-power objective, low-power objective).

21. A couple of the following items shoudl be thought about... a bird is made up of cells, it uses energy (to fly/move), it breathes, reponds to the environment, reproduces, has a life-span, and maintains a constant body temperature.

24. Once a virus infects a cell it uses the cell to make more viruses.  No drugs kill viruses (they aren't living), so your immune system has to work to get rid of viruses (if that is possible... your body can't get rid of the HIV/AIDS virus)

29. prokaryotic cells don't have organelles (such as a nucleus, or chloroplasts, or mitochondria, etc).  A plant cell has a cell wall, chloroplasts.  Animal cells have neither the cell wall or chloroplasts.

A total lunar eclipse during the winter solstice

Total lunar eclipse will take place this Monday... and Monday is an important day, because the northern hemisphere is receiving the shortest amount of sunlight.  This day (the day with the shortest amount of sunlight) is known as the the winter solstice.

Monday is also our next full moon!

Section 2 practice quiz (9 questions) Facts about the moon...these might be difficult, we haven't talked about all this information.
Section 3 Facts about the our solar system.  Items that should be known are the order of the planets, which ones are considered to be the inner planets (and which are the outer planets), what is an astronomical unit, what is the asteroid belt, and what other objects are within our solar system?

Winter Solstice

December 21st is the winter Solstice in the northern hemisphere and that means we will experience they day with the shortest amount of daylight.  During this day, the sun is shining directly on the Tropic of Capricorn (which is located at 23.5 degrees South Latitude).
